Problem:

what happens to the volume of the syringe as the set of weights is added on the top of it?

The volume of syringe decreases as the set of weights is added on the top of it without allowing the gas to escape . This experiment shows the compressibility property of gas. Gas particle are far away from each other because they have law force of attraction between each molecule. Since the molecules are far away from each other, the particles can be compressed to occupy a lesser although pressure increases when we lower the volume.
